The Guide to Natural Looking Botox

Botox is an injection that is used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, the horizontal wrinkles across the forehead, and the crow’s feet at the sides of the eyes. Botox works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form. Botox injections are a quick, simple procedure that can be performed during a brief office visit.

What is Botox?

Botox is a purified protein that is derived from clostridium botulinum, an organism found in the natural environment. The protein blocks the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract. As a result, wrinkles and fine lines become less noticeable in the skin.

How Long will It Take For Me To See Results With Botox?

The results of Botox will not be visible immediately. It takes several days for the effects of the injections to kick in and begin to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Improvement may last from four to six months when used for cosmetic purposes. However, the effects of Botox will vary for each person depending on their skin type and lifestyle habits.

What Does Botox Treat?

BOTOX® is an FDA-approved cosmetic injectable that contains botulism toxin. This neurotoxin is most commonly used for its ability to temporarily paralyze muscles of the face. When someone has wrinkles and fine lines, it is because of the underlying muscle movements that cause the skin to fold in on itself. When Botox is used, the nerves to the muscles are blocked, and the overlying skin remains smooth and wrinkle-free; the results of this treatment last up to four months.

Aside from wrinkles, Botox is also used to treat several other cosmetic issues, including vertical lip lines, neck bands, crow’s feet, gummy smiles, scars, etc. It is also used to prevent migraine headaches by relaxing the inflamed nerves around your head.

BOTOX® is also effective in treating excessive sweating in the underarm area. Sweat is produced through sweat glands in the skin that connect to deeper tissues via larger trunks called ducts. These ducts contain valves that open to allow sweat to escape and then close again once the sweat has been excreted. When the nerve supply to these sweat pores is temporarily interrupted with Botox, the sweat glands cannot release their fluid, so patients see a reduction in sweating. The results of this treatment last approximately six months.

Am I A Candidate For Botox?

  • Are you at least 18 years old?
  • Do you have moderate to severe facial wrinkling or lines?
  • Are you in good physical health?
  • Do you have realistic expectations for the outcome of your treatment?
  • Do you prefer minimally invasive treatments with little to no recovery time?

If you answered yes to these questions, then you are most likely a good candidate for Botox! Talk to your dentist to see if this treatment is right for you.

Although Botox is safe when administered by a certified dentist, it is still important to discuss your entire medical and dental history with them beforehand to make sure you don’t have any allergies to the product. Additionally, pregnant and breastfeeding women should refrain from getting Botox treatment during pregnancy to avoid any complications.
